BRITISH FUNDS FIRM.

Duruxo the past week general business in the Stoek.Markets has again been of a somewhat restricted character, so far, at all events, as the speculative and semi-speculative markets are coneerned. As a matter of fact, the speculative positions in some of the Industrial shares had become rather unwieldy and the market has been all the better for the steady stream of realizing sales. Moreover, the uncertainty with regard (Continued on page es2.) to the outlook abroad has tended to check speculative opera. tions and, on the other hand, to direct attention to the "t safety first " stocks. British Funds and kindred securities, which continue to be favourably influenced by cheap money, have been firm throughout, and there has been a quick response on the part of the investor to new issues of capital.
