Happy motoring

Sir: Rupert Croft Cooke's rose coloured spectacles (October 19) were not focused on car driving because he doesn't do it any more, but you may be interested in the observations of one returning, after many years in the provinces, to London. I can't believe there is any major city in this or any other country where the drivers are so considerate both in the rights of pedestrians at crossings, and the convenience of other motorists who need to cross a stream of traffic. An added delight is the almost universal habit people have of signalling their thanks, even if sometimes this may be dangerous!
