Scott on Scott

From Mr Jeremy Scott Sir: I was interested to read the piece by Barrie Penrose (lack Straw's nocturnal delving', 19 October) on the curious Norman Scott/Jeremy Thorpe affair. While Scott was working for my wife Tania and myself in 1967/8 as resident nanny to our infant daughter Sasha, he talked often and at length about the problem of his missing National Insurance documents. He insisted it was Thorpe who had stolen and was unlawfully retaining these to maintain control over him. He was very specific about this. as he was about the series of unnatural acts he had been subjected to at the hands (and more) of Thorpe and another public figure. The encounter is described in my just published memoir Fast and Louche (Profile Books), but on the advice of our libel lawyer that public figure could not be named.

I'd like to add, if I may, that Scott was impeccable in the performance of all his duties and left our employment with firstclass references.
