Puna Vol. XXX. .(Bradbury and Evans.)—In the volume for 1856,

the pictures maintain their wonted superiority over the text. There is, however, a certain pleasure and even profit in turning over pages which remind one—better than anything else—of the subjectS which 'occupied the public mind seven years ago. It is curious to find. among the jokes about the peace with Russia the stopping of the- Sunday bands in the park, crinoline, and the like,' proof that the garotters were almost as much public talk in 1856 as in 1862.. Even then Punch was giving us anti-garotte collars and overcoats, as well ne- ologies from ticket-of-leave men.
