The best of bras

Sir: An admirable feature of Leo Klin's Kestos bra (The Homeric brassiere', 13 April) that I have never encountered in other makes was that the waistband cros- sed at the back to button up at the front under each cup. This avoided inelegant fumbling with hooks and eyes at a critical moment or the humiliation of the loved one impatiently brushing one aside to undo them herself.

Klin's application of engineering princi- ples to the support of the female bosom liberated women from the tyranny of the whalebone and corset and he also — as in this instance — had the practical common sense to be expected of a man trained in the University of Life and clearly lacking in contemporary designers and marketing men. I was, I am sure, native erudition rather than formal education that led him to Iliad Book 14 for the name of his creation and Hera's keston himanta (breast band) which she removed to such seductive effect.
