Exciting England

Sir: It is clear that normal appeals to the institutions of our Government to limit the encroaching powers of the Social Service Family Destruction Department are prov-

ing futile (`Get the baby, go and get the baby', 6 August).

The only effective approach to this prob- lem will be the introduction of a private service, freely advertised in the Yellow Pages, to recover children from the places where they are being held. For a reasonable charge, the Recovery Service (not to be confused with the RAC or AA, but to which you could subscribe annually in the same way on a per-child basis) would be on call with an armoured vehicle to enter the Social Service office by force, recover the child, and reunite it with its family. Then the family could live in a selected Safe House of its choosing free for six weeks while the heat died down, and longer but at extra charge.

This might not be legal, but if the law supports the monstrous hegemony of a minority of politically correct urban fanat- ics over the lives of the citizens, then civil disobedience is the only way.

I relish my imminent return to my home- land. When I left, I led a boring, law-abid- ing life with a venture into the dark on an unlit bike my biggest dare. Circumstances have now changed: I will be a wanted crimi- nal, guilty of aiding and abetting fox-hunt- ing, guilty of aiding and abetting people to recover children, guilty of aiding and abet- ting pub landlords to smoke pipes. Life will be exciting.
