Set,—I well remember an experience exactly like that which Lord Walter Gordon Lennox describes. In 1885 I was in camp outside Suakin when at night a searchlight used to sweep the ground in front. Where it passed one could see many bright scintillating flashes moving about, but nothing else. These were reflections from the eyes of dogs quarrelling over the bodies of unburied animals.
