Accounts from the United States mention, that the offer of

the British Government to mediate between France and America had been received, and no doubt seemed to be entertained that it would be accepted; though nothing certain was known on that point.

The Indians of Florida had attacked the Whites, and laid deso- late the country in the vicinity of St. Augustine. Preparations were making in South Carolina and Georgia for suppressing the insurrection ; and it was expected that a fearful slaughter of the Indians would ensue. In Florida, as elsewhere in America, the Indians are said to have been infamously treated by the Whites.
