As Mr. Neville Chamberlain pointed out recently;-owner-ocenpiers aren-Stabiliiinginfluence in any country, and therefore the work of building societies, which have played so great a part in helping people to build or buy a house with the assistance of a loan is of national service. The growth 'of these societies during the past few years has been remarkable. According to the latest report of the Registrar-General of Friendly Societies there has been a recent increase in membership of 895,594 to 1,000,988 persons. -Their income has increased from £61,574,528 to £72,582,400, while their assets have risen over £144,000,000.
