Tanglewood Tales. 13y Nathaniel Hawthorne. Illustrated by Maxfield Parrish. (T. Werner Laurie. 12s. 6d. net.)—Mr. Parrish has real imagination and feeling for design. Ho can create a world in which centaurs naturally take their place, or a condition of sky and land where Cadmus appropriately sows the dragon's teeth. The artist knows how to design both background and figures with a largeness of style and breadth of decorative effect suitable to mythology. We should greatly like to see the originals, for we are persuaded that these reproductions do no sort of justice to their colour.
