The Social Worker's Guide, edited by the Rev. J. B.

Haldane (Sir Isaac Pitman and Sons, 8s. Gd. net), is described as a" Hand. book of Information and Counsel for all who are interested in Public Welfare." It contains a number of articles, all written by exports in the subjects with which they deal, arranged in alphabetical order. Among those subjeots, to take a four at random, are " Blind, Education of," " Building By-laws," "Friendly Societies," "Housing Acts." We observe that about two-fifths of the contributors, who number fifty in all, are women. This fact indicates a considerable movement. What would have been the proportion a century ago?
