RACING DIAMONDS

Why does the brooch languish in fashion obscurity for years at a time? Unlike any other piece of jewellery, the brooch is independent of all our physical limitations, floating in majestic self-containment. With a diamond pin attached to a lapel even the most ordinary of jackets is transformed into haute couture and the most boring little black dress can be set alight with a dazzling fire of white stones. Of course, the Victorians had a fondness for novelty brooches, especially of the sporting variety — miniature tennis racquets, golf clubs, fishing tackle and animal pins were the most popular. In today's climate, it's a racing certainty that if you were to hunt around you would be far more likely to find a diamond horse's head, celebrating the Sport of Kings. Take your diamonds for a day at the races and flaunt a brooch on Diamond Day at Ascot.
