The first acts of the new Pope's reign promise well

for his future government. Accounts have been received from Rome which state that he is immediately to grant a general amnesty for all political offences. The effect of this considerate act will be to set at liberty a great number of persons who were condemned to lengthened terms of imprisonment on account of the part which they took in the disturbances at Bologna last year.—Morning Chronicle.
