DAY NURSERIES

Sta,—.Could not the Ministry of Health encourage war factories to open nurseries where women workers might leave their children for the day? Of the hundreds of day nurseries which Mr. Ernest Brown tells us will be got going by the end of March, only two or three are at the factories themselves. Fort Dunlop has one of them, and here trained nurses look after children for a shilling a day each, including meals. Apart from the time saved, mothers would, I think, prefer to have their children as near to them as possible while they are at work. Cannot Mr. Brown persuade other factories to follow
