COMMENTING RATHER LATE on the ITV device of opening a

space-drama with a dead-pan parody of a government communiqud, I see that the Post- master-General said, 'It was incredibly stupid. It has devalued what the GovernMent might want to put out in the way of important announcements in the future.' Sir Robert Fraser might well riposte by arguing that if government statements had not been quite so incredible of late, there would be no chance of confusion between the two.
