Cuckoo in the Nest I have often done silly things.

I have often realised that I was in the wrong place at the wrong time. But never have I seen anyone look so absurdly out of place as did the leader of the Opposition when, followed by a dour crowd of retainers, he came into the jampacked North British hotel before lunch on Saturday. There was a moment of disbelief as the incredible news was passed round that he was going to make a speech in the Usher Hall on the afternoon of the Calcutta Cup game. 'He'll lose every vote in Scotland', said one of Scotland's most capped internationals. I have often heard the Central Office accused of bad timing, but Sir William Urton would never have been guilty of such a blunder. When Sir William presented Quoodle with a schedule of forthcoming speeches the dates of all inter- national matches were always pencilled in the margin. First things first.
