Don't you know?

Sir: I read in your diary of 6 March that you would have no complaint if the landowner of the house the leasehold of which you had bought refused to sell to you.

This will not do. Don't you know how to care (about yourself)? Don't you under- stand justice (which is what you want)? Don't you understand greed (which is someone else pursuing his desires) and why no one (except yourself) must have some- thing valuable? Don't you understand com- passion (for yourself) or how to be a Caring Person (for yourself)? Don't you under- stand the Law (as a bludgeon)? Don't you understand inalienable rights (which you have but others don't)? Don't you know how good (self-righteous) you can feel if you stand up for people (yourself, actually) who are 'disenfranchised' by the greed of the immoral wealthy? Don't you under- stand that the landowner owns too much property (because he owns more than you do)? Don't you understand how immoral (not agreeing with you) others are? Most of all, if you fail in this or in anything, don't you know that it's never your fault?

Someone with such attitudes cannot be a Man of the Nineties.
