Mr. John Rae, the well-known and courageous explorer of the Arctic regions, has written to the Times stating that the Hudson's Bay Company are about to despatch a boat-expedition to the Arctic Sea.

In the preserves of Lord Hawke, at Womersley, near Doncaster, on Thurs- day, there was a regular pitched battle between eight poachers with guns, and eight keepers, two with guns, the rest with cudgels. Three of the keepers were shot; one it is thought mortally. Four men were arrested yesterday on suspicion.
