In the House of Commons on Wednesday Mr. Asquith sub-

mitted a. motion designed to establish three principles. The first part of the motion expressed abhorrence of the brutal crimes committed by the Sinn Fein murderers. This, so far as it wenty was a sign of grace. The second part condemned the action of the Executive "in attempting to redress crimes by methods of terrorism and reprisals." And the third part declared "the urgency of taking immediate steps' to bring about the pacifi- cation of Ireland." Mr. Asquith enlarged upon each of these points in a speech which made little impression upon the House.
