The Log of Bob Bartlett (Putnam, 15s.) is, as the

author Captain Bob Bartlett says, " a simple yarn of a plain man who has seen a lot of life in queer ways." The author has no literary tricks ; he writes with the directness of a man who wants to finish his job, but his simplicity is sometimes effective, as in this description of a sinking ship : " As I rowed I kept looking at the poor old Corisande ' standing there alone and helpless like a fat sheep surrounded by wolves with white teeth." He writes of his sealing adventures and polar explorations, and is full of enthusiasm for Peary whose skipper he was on the journey to the North Pole. We can thoroughly recommend this biography to all who like a straightforward adventure yarn.
