The King and Queen have been staying with Lord and

Lady Spencer at Althorp during the week, and have seen a good deal of the Army manoeuvres in the Midlands. On Tuesday the King and Queen visited Northampton and received an enthusiastic welcome. The manceuvres this year are officially described as an "Army Exercise," the distinction being that the commanders have not a free hand. The White Army, which is a skeleton force, is a target for the attacks of the Brown Army under Sir John French. The four divisions of the Brown Army marched to the theatre of fighting in two columns by converging routes. The purpose is said to be to give the Expeditionary Force practice in the kind of opera- tiona it would have to carry out in conjunction with a Continental ally.
