GENERAL. DEPRESSION.

MOST of the factors operating upon the Stock Markets during the past week have been of an unfavourable character. Foremost among these influences has been the dentontlization of the German Bourse following upon- the General Election results. In quarters most closely in touch with Germany it is thought that the alarm occasioned by the extent of Communist victories at the Election has been overdone and that there is good hope of a sound and stable Government in Germany being established ere long. Whether that hope is well founded remains to be seen.
