Beehives are picturesque adjuncts to any garden ; and, if

the garden is in the country, they can be distinctly profitable adjuncts. Probably dread of the Isle of Wight disease has prevented many people keeping bees during the last decade, but we agree with Mr. Edwardes that such caution is exagge- rated. Mr. Edwardes is an acknowledged master of his subject, and has given us an ideal handbook either for the novice or the experienced bee-master. He writes lucidly and well, and we congratulate him on avoiding that dreadful chattiness of style which so many writers on such subjects often adopt.
