RELIGION AND ETHICS.

Fifty Years of Disestablishrnent : Sketch. By Henry E. Patten. (Dublin : Association for Promoting Christian Knowledge.) The Archdeacom of Killaloe has written a dispassionate account of the affairs of the Church of Ireland since it was dis- established in 1869. It is the story of a brave and on the whole successful struggle against adversity, and of a real spiritual revival. The details are of interest. The author remarks at the close that " the Church has lost more in these two years (1921-1922) than in the preceding fifty years," but he thinks that there is still hope as " the Provisional Govern- ment has begun well."
