Eked out
Sir: No self-respecting reviewer these days, it seems, would dream of being entirelY factual! Your own reviewer, Denis Donoghue (21 August), living up to this expectancy, errs in proclaiming that David Krause's recent book on Sean O'CaseY 15 only what he terms 'a brief biography • • • eked out with pictures.' As Krause's voluale keeps to the format and is only one of several in Thames and Hudson's very well: known and valued 'Pictorial BiographY series, it is hardly fair to brandish the end-product in this case as sorr .:thing 'eked out with pictures'.
I suspect, more relevantly, your reviewer was looking for a shillelah to beat O'CaseY with and so cudgelled himself into imagining that Dr Krause had done a poor job, On the contrary, illustrations and left reflect much that is new in Sean O'CaseY s world. Prejudice can sometimes make fools of us all!
