Bnng back Enoch

Sir: I am, I think, right in thinking that The Rt Hon John Enoch Powell, MBE, MP, was elected 'Man of the Year' in 1972 and 1973, under the auspices of the, Radio Four programmes, namely, The HW aorrdldcasatti:One and Five pm Reports usually presided over by Mr William

As the country staggers on like an alcoholic, who fully realises that he must go to the clinic sooner or later or go to the wall in the final analysis, but who has not brought himself to the point of crossing the Rubican and availing himself of treatment, Mr Powell has not yet been called upon. It is most unfortunate that the longer the evil day is put off the more difficult and more protracted Mr Powell's task will be. However reluctant and unwilling many may be to face the fact I am sure that the time will come and mast come when the country as a whole will realise that in a situation in which constancy, fidelity, fortitude and firmness have all but vanished from the public scene Mr Powell, like the late Sir Winston Churchill, stands out as our only hope for the future and, in order to pay tribute to his services and give him some encouragement, I do hope that a great many people may send a postcard to Mr William Hardcastle nominating Mr Powell as their Man of the Year. I do most sincerely hope that you may

see your way to publish this letter as I think it imperative that each and every one of use must try and stop the drift, by trying in any way he possibly can to bring to an end the Conservative leadership fiasco, and negative or minority government, at a time like this. 456 Great Western Road.
