By the packet-ship Sheridan, accounts to the 5th instant have

been received from New York. As to the Oregon question, the peaceful tone assumed on hear- ing of the new commercial policy of England continued. A report that Mr. Pakenham had resumed correspondence with Mr. Buchanan had met with gene- ral favour. In the Senate, the question remained in abeyance; in the House of Representatives, some motions of an amicable character were "tabled."

Last night's Gazette contains the official account of the destruction of the bat- teries in the river Parana by the combined fleets of England and France, on the 20th November, reported by the newspapers long ago.
