Catholic faith

Sir: Most Catholics are not likely to be distressed by the flamboyant self-righteousness' of Mr Stuart Reid, which is 15. L. Daniel's (January 31) interpretation of his article on the 'Westminster Succession'. But they may well have felt depressed by the rather bitter and dispirited tone of it, possibly because it accurately and painfully pinpoints their own misgivings about Catholic parishes today.

What would Mr Daniel's Catholics Prefer to read : the covert deceptions of such as Peter Hebblethwaite, or the overt suspicions of Stuart Reid? Since faith is More easily destroyed by hypocrisy than by doubts, surely "most Catholics" would be grateful to those who attempt to call their attention to the troubles?
