Investment Notes

HE last week of the three-week account on the Stock Exchange brought firmer markets and broader business. The possibility of a Hull by-election win for the Tories had something to do with the better sentiment, but the strength of Wall Street and the several takeover bids played their part. Now the bank dividend season is over some investors have been taking profits on bank shares and switching into breweries. The WHITBREAD bid for RHYINNEY called attention to the fact that the merger process in the brewery industry was not yet completed. Whitbread 'A' to yield 5.4 per cent seemed a better home than a bank share to yield 4.4 per cent. I hear there is a new 'Triple-vest' coming from the Dual- vest stable. The popularity of the issues pro- viding one class of share for capital growth and another class to take all the income seems to be growing fast.
