Germany's weapcins

Sir: May I say what our politicians dare not say? I was sorry to see Mr Ridley leave the Government, for in part his brief excursion in print via The Spectator urged us to recall Europe's past. In his The Art of Being Ruled Wyndham Lewis pointed out that Johann Peter Lange (1802-84) first bruited 'I'm being recalled to traditional family values, Gretchen.'

the idea of European unity. He was a theologian and presumably thought it would be good for Christianity. Spengler, Schopenhauer, Nietzsche are among other more influential writers who to a greater or lesser degree enthused on the theme of `The Will To Power'.

Of course, neither Kohl nor any other German politician will be able to have another bash against the Jews. But it is quite evident the new strike will be one against those most economically weak in each EEC country, using the old vicious weapon of the dole queue. Shall we be any more sacrosanct than the Poles, or Czechs, or Bulgarians?
