The car I tried had only 250 miles to its

credit so it would

hardly do itself justice. Such newness, too, might account for a marked heaviness in the steering: The speeds I _obtained on the gears were :-30; 50; and just over 66 m.p.h. 10 to 30 on top took 14i sees. ; 9f secs. on third. 10 to 60 on top was covered in 481 sees.

I regard the acceleration as normal for the type of ear; the engine is willing on hills, and rather surprisingly smooth and quiet throughout its rarige. There was no noticeable vibration period.

• Travelling over an extremely bad surface showed that the

suspension was good, and even- under these trying conditions the car did not appear to be at all strained. I found the brakes smooth and even in operation, though a little more " bite" would not be amiss.

On the whole the car strikes one as being a solid and sub-

stantial job, while the gear changing device must single it out from other makes. In unskilled hands this device, besides adding to the pleasure of driving, would certainly increase the average maintained because it is so easy and inviting for the driver to do the right thing to get the best results from his car.
