SIII,—I have been reading your account of "The Ilerberta" in your paper of Saturday, 21st May, in which you state—William. Herbert, Lord of Ragland, which he derived from his grandmother, Maud Morley. The factis William Herbert's father, Sir William- ap 'Ilramas, obtained the Ragland estate not from his mother, Maud Morley, but Sir William-ap-Thomas's first wife, Elizabeth Blunt, was the heiressof Ragland, and when Sir William-ap-Thomas married the heiress she was the widow of Sir James Berkeley, and had a. son, James Berkeley. Sir William-ap-Thomas had no issue by the heiress of Ragland, but obtained Ragland either by grant or purchase from his stepson, James Berkeley, and sir Willituniep-'1'homas having become possessed of Ragland, left it to his son, William Herbert, Earl of Pembroke, by his second wife, G wladdilve daughter of Sir David Gam. 1 enclose a short pedigree-I have.
