THE POST-OFFICE AND THE NEWSPAPERS.

TO THE EDITott. OF THE SPECTATOR.

Tuesday Morning, 24th November 15:15. Si a—I read your paper regularly ; and last week, after hat i log done so. sent it to a friend in Edinburgh. rpon its arrival there, hern'ysie shillings of postage was demauded. Can you, Sir, give me a reason for this ? If it is, as I suspect, from the paper hat ing been cut, it is an absurd state of the law. and operates injuriously upon your journal, and so inset the public. Of course, now, if 1 wish to send ;I weekly paper and accommodate a friend in the country, I must forego the pleasure of the journal I like, and purchase one of a single broad sheet. 11111 common sense never regulate the laws of our country ?
