Junior (Longman) has reached a fourth edition—a testimony, we should be inclined to think, to the interest of the subject, rather than to the ability of the writer. It is not easy to imagine a man blinding himself so completely to facts as to declare that there is no cause for the difference of the penalties with which society visits the sin of unchastity in men and in women besides the fact that men have hitherto possessed exclusively the power of making the laws. Is there no significance, then, in what may be called the natural penalty ?
