In My Garden We appreciate flowers in part by the

duration of the flowering period. Roses, violas—especially gracilis, perhaps—valerians and marigolds are valued on this account. The weeping willow boasts such a quality. Mine was saliently green and yellow before the daffodils were out, and the colour of the still abundant foliage was almost springlike—at any rate at a distance—in the second week of November. More people, I think, would grow willows, many brightly coloured in stem as well as leaf, if the false idea were not prevalent that they need a deal of water. They
