Personal Names in the Bible. By W. F. Wilkinson, M.A.

(Strahan.)—• This volume opens with fifty pages on the nature and origin of names and surnames in general, then follow more than 100 pages on the names of God, and these are succeeded by some 300 more on the sub- ject indicated in the title. Those who cannot have too much of a good thing will find everything that they can desire ; the explanations of the proper names are satisfactory, but are frightfully spun out ; thus we have three pages to show that Elishall life corresponded to the meaning oflais name, and four on the change from Hoshea to Joshua. The book might very well have been reduced one-lull.
