The authors clan" sify positions and games by the types of Mote produced, a method to my mind no better and no worse than most of the alternative waYs classification; the value and the entertainment of a book of this kind lie in the stimulus it giV6 to the chess imagination, and judged by this test 1 would rate The Art of the Checkmate as a 0° average member of its class and worth having' A good feature is the inclusion of 80 'exercise' for the reader.' This week's game, taken from The Art of the Checkmate, is a win by Spielmann. one of the greatest attacking players of all tinle.
