October 27 1866 Mr. Snider, the inventor of the breech-loader, died suddenly on Thursday morning. Early on the same day the War Office had arranged a scheme of remuneration. He died therefore with- out having heard that justice had been done him —a justice which he could, however, never have enjoyed, having sold most of his rights in the gun to Colonel Roden, who, we presume, will now obtain the reward.
