Unobtainable Books

SIR,—The book trade is greatly concerned by cur- rent reports that university students are apparently finding it necessary to resort to illegal (and expen- sive) methods, such as photographing and photo- copying, to obtain essential textbook material.

In order to establish whether the fault lies in pro- duction or distribution or in both, may we, through your columns, ask anyone who has found it im- possible to get hold of a textbook by the time required to write to us, giving full details of the difficulties they have experienced. It is essential that they should include among these the title, author and publisher of the work in question, the date on which the order was placed, the date by which the book was required and the name of the bookshop from which it was ordered or the library from which it was requested.

As soon as we have this information we will make a thorough investigation, and report our findings to those concerned.
