Careless and clothesless

From Pamela Glanville Sir: Reading about Susan Crosland's deba- cle with Porfirio Rubirosa (Letters, 21 October), I was horrified to learn that beds at the Savoy were left unmade up to and beyond lunchtime, or, as my Irish help would have it, left 'undressed'.

It is this kind of carelessness which can confuse visitors into thinking that lunchtime is really suppertime and into shedding their clothes instead of putting them on. I do hope that things have improved since then.
