The Prussian review at Dusseldorf has been well attended, and
the general opinion seems somewhat in this wise : The men are well dressed, well armed, and admirably drilled, but the movements are too slow, and the whole organization of the army much too cumbrous. for the present day. The French officers in particular thought thd manoeuvres inferior to those of their own troops, while an English correspondent reports the men as harassed by superfluous move- ments, such as a grand parade step with the knees lifted up, which can be of no utility in the field. The strict discipline of Frederick
the Great has degenerated apparently into a painful martinetism, at- tentive to buttons and most other details;. speed'of !notion excepted. The army, however, is animated by a good spirit, and sufficiently commanded.
