Liberalism in Canada Dangerous as it is to base far-reaching

conclusions on the results of by-elections, the five contests that have just been decided in Ontario can only be interpreted in one way. In two seats held by the Liberals the Liberal majority was increased. Of three held by Conservatives two were captured by Liberals and the third undoubtedly would have been but for the intervention of a Co-operative Commonwealth candidate, which meant a split in the anti-Government vote. Coming after the sweeping victory of the Liberals in the Ontario provincial elections, and similar victories in other provinces, the evidence of a flow of national feeling against Mr. Bennett's Conservative and high-tariff Government is irresistible,
