Francis Thompson

Sir: P. J. Kavanagh is always a welcome visitor to the London Library, but his mind must have been on blackberries and bird- song when he failed to find anything here on Francis Thompson (Postscript, 7 September). In addition to the Rooker which Kavanagh found in his local book- shop, our catalogue lists 14 other works, including critical studies and biographies, the most recent having been published in 1968.

It is a relief to be able to report that Thompson has not been quite so neglected as your admirable columnist suggests. Douglas Matthews
