Sir Henry Sumner Maine, K.C.S.I.; has been elected Master of

Trinity Hall, in the place of the late Dr. Geldart. This appoint- ment will rob the India Council of one of its most thoughtful mem- bers, but ensure to the University of Cambridge the constant and permanent help of one of the ablest and most original students of the day. Sir Henry Maine is one of those who produce not many things, but much, because all they produce is saturated with the reading and thought of years. Under him Trinity Hall may well become one of the most distinguished of the col- leges of Cambridge.
