*The Archbishop of Canterbury, in his Christmas Message to the

heads of the Church, has stated that conferences between Roman Catholic and English divines have been begun at Malines with a view to reunion. These discussions, which have not apparently advanced Very far, are, of course, the direct result of the resolution passed by the Lambeth Conference in 1920. The Dean of Wells, the Bishop of Truro, Lord Halifax, Bishop Gore and the Warden of Keble College, Oxford, are representing the Church of England. Misgivings expressed here arc at least premature. The Pope's primacy would not be accepted ; and if he could yield his primacy the chief cause of misgiving would disappear. * * * *
