Wish you were here

Sir: While sympathising with Donald McLachlan's desire to keep the nicest 'unspoilt' holiday places to himself. I feel I must take him up on a point of detail in his otherwise admirable 'Wish you were here' article (15 December).

' He refers to the Daily. Telegraph as having `the biggest middle-class circulation next to that of the Sunday Times.' I don't know, and neither does Mr McLachlan, what the middle-class circulation of any newspaper is—nobody has measured it. But in terms of readership I must point out that the Sun- day Express has more Am 1 (i.e. middle class) readeri than the Daily Telegraph and the Sunday Tunes put together, and that the Daily Express has well over 50 per cent -more than either the Daily
