Shades of the Holocaust

From Dr Michael Martin-Smith Sir: PetroneIla Wyatt notes a rise in openly expressed anti-Semitism since 11 September (Singular life, 8 December). She is not alone in observing this. The recent antiracism conference in Durban showed how far politically correct anti-Zionism/Semitism is going, as can be seen from the South African Daily Mail and Guardian forum on the Internet.

This is really very dangerous, not least for the very people who promote such ideas. When Israel wins a Middle East war, Arabs are humiliated and lose face, but are not denied the right or fact of existence within recognised state boundaries. If. however, Israel were to lose, every Israeli fears beyond reassurance that an internationally sanctioned Holocaust Mark II would follow as night follows day. Which of our oh-sopolitically-correct anti-Zionists are able to reassure Israel that no such threat in fact exists? After all, the only reason for Holocaust denial is to make it easier to carry one out in the future. Jews recognise that Holocaust denial is tantamount to a desired Holocaust. Arab bookstalls from Baghdad to Casablanca carry material that would make Julius Streicher squirm.
