Raymond : an Exceptional Biography. By Harry Moreland. 3 vols.

(Saunders and Otley.)—It is wholly impossible to make head or tail of this thing which calls itself a novel. Its only merit to a reviewer is that it is widely printed, and a mere mechanical process of turning over the leaves shows him what is in it. But as he finds nothing in it, as the attempts at character are futile and the attempts at incident anile, he can only lay it down as " exceptional" rubbish, and hope that no reader will be so unwise as to take it up again.
