I customarily draw the attention of readers of this column

to the latest annual edition of Ashley Courtenay's handbook to British hotels (Let's Halt Awhile, 68 St. James's Street, S.W.1, 8s. 6d.) because of its value to those beginning to plan their holidays. This year, with reduced encouragement to go abroad, help in choosing a British hotel should be particularly welcome, and the fact that in this edition 186 hotels have been added and 150, for various reasons, deleted, indicates the • seriousness with which Mr. Courtenay takes his task. I hope, incidentally, that next year Scotland will be dealt with more fully.
