begins with a sort of application of the famous casuistical question, "Whether it is lawful to give false information to a murderer pursuing an innocent victim?" The circumstances under which the question, or something like it, arises, excite a languid interest. There is a secret, which we would take some little trouble to find out ; but as we go on, through pages that grow more and more tedious, we feel that the trouble is too much.
